Kevin McGee, chief executive of Blackpool Teaching Hospitals, says NHS staff are working "tirelessly to protect our communities" during the coronavirus outbreak.
In a message of reassurance he said: "The staff are wonderful and are professional and we owe them a great debt.

But he added residents also "need to help us" and get behind the NHS by taking the right action as well.
He said: "So that means looking after yourself, following all the public health messages such as washing your hands, social isolation, and particularly that social isolation for the over 70s is absolutely vital.
"If we get that right that will reduce the pressure on our services, it means we can keep our communities safer and it will reduce the burden on staff."
And he also had a message of hope for the future.
Mr McGee said: "The next few months will be difficult, but we will come out of this stronger as communities, stronger as the NHS and Blackpool hospitals will come out stronger."
