Mikey Moon's health and fitness column: Welcome back to the gym
The news that gyms will reopen after lockdown ends a week tomorrow has been met with bit of a buzz.
I have had lots of members message me to say how excited they are for the return of gyms.

Hide AdIt made me think about how important the service we provide is.
The thing about a gym is that it isn’t just designed to help someone physically.
For a lot of people, a gym plays a really important part in their mental health as well as their physical wellbeing.
The gym is a release for many and the endorphins created by exercise help to make people feel good.
You can’t beat that feeling of finishing a workout.

Hide AdIt feels amazing, so when the gyms were forced to shut again I’m not at all surprised people were worried and a bit upset.
In the summer it wasn’t so bad because there was something quite novel about lacing up your trainers for a run or a walk.
We were blessed with really good weather, which seemed to help everyone to keep their spirits up.
This time around it has felt gloomier and that maybe because of the weather.

Hide AdWith all the will in the world, if it’s raining sideways (as it so often is on the Fylde coast) I am not going outside – and I think we are just all a little bit done with home workouts.
Nothing beats the feeling of being somewhere else entirely.
At the gym you are able to see the friends you have made and escape from your daily routine for a whole hour.
So when the gyms reopen, get yourself there and get that feeling back.
You know you will feel better for it.
