Details of all the 64 paupers funerals held in Blackpool in the last 12 months

A pauper's funeral, or a Public Health Funeral, is a simple funeral paid for by the local council when the family are unable to, or no family can be traced.

Blackpool Council said they had received a “large number of requests under the Freedom of Information Act” for details of cases where they had undertaken arrangements for a funeral.

It revealed 64 paupers' funerals were held in the resort in the last 12 months, with the youngest person being 44.

One of the people listed was Jason Terrance Quayle who was found unresponsive in his bungalow in Mardale Avenue in 2023.

The 52-year-old was born in Mount Lawley in Western Australia on December 6, 1970.

An inquest held at Blackpool Town Hall in November 2023 heard that police were called to Jason's home at 7.42pm on June 29.

Det Sgt Tris Hardwick confirmed the doors had been locked and there was no evidence of third-party involvement or suspicious circumstances.

Assistant Coroner Andrew Cousins returned a conclusion of drug-related death.

He said: "Jason Terrance Quayle was found deceased at Mardale Avenue on June 29, 2023.

“Toxicological analysis showed the presence of methadone at a level which is [within the range encountered in fatalities]."
