“We’re having a really challenging spell”: Ian Evatt tips Blackpool to come through tough times
Ian Evatt maintains Blackpool can progress up the League One table.
Blackpool boss Ian Evatt insists his side will put their difficult spell in the rearview mirror sooner rather than later, writes NEIL GOULDING.
The Seasiders are 18th in League One after failing to register a league win in their last five.
Last Saturday’s 1-0 loss at Cambridge United made it one win in seven across all competitions, coming with last week’s penalty victory over Crewe Alexandra in the Jersey Mike’s Trophy.
Evatt, nevertheless, believes the fortitude his squad is developing will hold them in good stead.
He said: “It doesn’t get any easier, but it’s building resilience in adversity.
“That’s what we have to carry on. We’re having a really challenging spell, a difficult spell.
“Every journey has bumps in the road and we seem to be hitting a few bumps.
“Weirdly, I feel more confident off the back of the game with what I’ve got behind me and, if we can keep the squad fit and healthy, we’ll be absolutely fine.
“The fans have been brilliant with us. They can see the effort we put in.
“Fans aren’t silly. They can see what’s happening on a football pitch.”
Cambridge posed a physical threat to the Seasiders but Evatt was pleased at how his charges dealt with that challenge, especially without captain George Honeyman after his early red card.
“Physically we stood up to it,” added Evatt.

“I’ve asked that question of them and when we come up against physical teams, we’ve got to stand up to it and we did that.
“That’s the level. I know they can do it. If we do it we’ll be able to shoot up the league.
“This league’s a little bit upside down at the moment. It’s a bit here, there and everywhere.
“We have to keep focused and focus on the next game. What’s happened has happened.”
