'It's been a privilege' - Bidding farewell to Blackpool FC and The Gazette
Blackpool FC reporter Amos Wynn bids farewell to The Gazette.
It’s been a privilege to cover Blackpool for the past three seasons - and it’s a club that will always remain close to my heart.
Since announcing my departure from The Gazette earlier this week, the reaction has been very humbling.
Thank you to everyone who has messaged or commented, your kind words have really meant a lot.
This wasn’t an easy decision, as a role like this is always just more than a job.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed becoming immersed with all things Seasiders across the last three years, with Bloomfield Road becoming my second home.
While it’s not been the most prosperous era of the club’s history, it’s been an honour to tell stories old and new, and there have been some great days along the way.
There have been some tough away days and harsh ratings along the way, but also times that I can look back on with fondness.
At the very least going forward, I’ll still be checking the scores every Saturday, but don’t be surprised if I continue to pop up with random interviews and videos from time to time down the line.
While I’m still youngish, and have no truly important commitments, I’m off to do some travelling in Australia for the next five to six months - where I’ll be continuing to take in as much sport as possible. We’ll see if A-League officiating is just as frustrating as League One.
It’s a little bit of a mad move admittedly, but life is about taking a risk sometimes, and hopefully I’ll still be saying the same when I return home. Now just feels like the right time to take that plunge.
No doubt when I’m back on English soil, I’ll be heading down to Bloomfield Road as soon as I can.
Hopefully things will be slightly more positive than they feel now, and the team will be set up for a strong end to the season. I’ll keep my eye on train tickets to Wembley just in case.
I’d like to thank the colleagues who have supported me on my journalism journey so far, the people at the club and in the press box who have become good friends, the staff at the stadium who have always made me feel welcome, coaches and players both past and present for their time, and most importantly the fans for always being part of the journey.
I’ll see you at some point down the road.
