A huge search for missing Lancashire teenager Jay Slater has entered its 14th day in Tenerife.

Jay Slater, 19, from Oswaldtwistle, was last heard from on Monday morning as he told a friend he planned to walk back to his accommodation after missing a bus, a journey expected to take around 11 hours on foot.

His friend Lucy – who had gone to the island with him to attend the NRG music festival – said that Jay had gone to stay with two men he met the night before.

She said she received a call from Jay at around 8.15am the following morning (Monday, June 17) saying he was going to try and walk back to his holiday accommodation - a journey of 11 hours on foot.

But he told her he was lost, needed a drink of water and had only 1% battery on his phone. He has not been seen or heard from since.

Jay’s phone pinged his last location as the Rural de Teno park – a mountainous area popular with hikers near the village of Masca.

Searches have been ongoing in this area in the days since his disappearance. Mountain rescue teams, local police, the Civil Guard and fire crews have been scouring the vast landscape, with sniffer dogs, drones and helicopters used in the search.

Missing Jay had cut his leg and didn’t know where he was, says friend

Shortly before his disappearance, Jay had “cut his leg on a cactus” and did not know where he was, his friend said.

Lucy Law said 19-year-old Jay, who has been missing since Monday, had phoned her to say he “didn’t know where he was”, that he “needed a drink” and had “cut his leg on a cactus”, in his last known contact with anyone before vanishing while on holiday in Tenerife.

He was without food and water, she added, and had been wearing a T-shirt and shorts. “It’s very warm in the day and very cold at night,” Lucy told Sky News.

"We are all so worried and we just want him home"

Friend Lucy Law, writing on the official GoFundMe page said:

Hi everyone my name is Lucy. I have come on holiday to Tenerife to attend the NRG festival with my friend Jay & another friend.

On the last day of the festival, I left alone, earlier than everyone else, because I was tired from the weekend.

I woke up to a phone call off Jay at 8:30 AM saying “he was lost in the mountains, he wasn’t aware of his surroundings, he desperately needed a drink & his phone was on 1%”.

He had met 2 people on Sunday night and left with them to go to their apartment. Their apartment was miles away from civilisation and in a very secluded location.

He left at 8am, and walked half an hour before frantically ringing me when his phone reached 1%.

This was 3 days ago now, and no one has seen or heard from him since. His last location was on an off road track, which was a 10 hour walk from his hotel.

The weather conditions up there are terrible for someone in shorts & a t-shirt, both in the day & at night.

He has no water for when it’s warm through out the day, and he has no coat/suitable clothing for when it’s cold at night. It was 1 degree and extremely windy when I was out looking in the middle of the night.

We are all so worried and we just want him home. Please help if you can and share far and wide. Thank you for reading."

"Still no updates, if you can help please do"

Jay's friend Lucy posted this from Tenerife just before 5am this morning

"Still no updates, when it reaches 8:30am it’s been 3 days. Tomorrow, we need as many people as possible up there searching for him please.

"We will be up there again first thing, however a search party is going to be necessary to search everywhere as the area is very big.

"If you can help, please do, we need to get him home."

Go Fund Me confirms new fundraiser is verified

Go Fund Me has confirmed that a new fundraiser set up by Jay's friend Lucy has been verified and all donations will go to his family to help with the search in Tenerife.

More than £15,000 has been raised since the campaign went live this morning.
